The bed time tome quest.
Hello Reader,
How are you today?
Oh, so happy to hear that! I'm in a bit of a mood today, but I'm taking care of it—nothing a good shower can't solve.
I've missed a couple of Tuesdays, but for a good reason: I've been doing job interviews, and I've finally found one! But that's going to be a topic for the Diary series.
Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to our first-ever column (Oh, how I love to write that!), "Quest for Progress!"
In this column, we're going to tackle one challenge per month. We'll see if it's doable and analyze everything the challenge gives us. It's structured with two articles per month: the first introduces the challenge, and the second, a month later, presents the results. We'll analyze how it went and whether our expectations were met.
This month's challenge is a simple one: reading before sleeping. I know it's no big deal, but I have the terrible habit of scrolling for hours and then struggling to sleep. Plus, after hours of scrolling, I have way more anxiety than before, which leads to nightmares or insomnia.
That's why I thought of books. I love books and have tons of them, but I don't read much. That's because during the day I'm busy, and from evening to bedtime, I'm on my phone. I've also noticed my concentration has worsened a lot. I can't stay still doing one thing; I need many things going on. When I'm reading, there's not much else I can do.
That's why I read only a couple of pages at a time, which isn't good.
The way I want this challenge to go is pretty simple: From 7 PM onward, no social media allowed. Once in bed, instead of scrolling, I'll read. No reading from the phone—that's another problem of mine. I read on apps like Kindle, and then I end up scrolling again. I'm going to read only paper books. There's a second reason behind this choice: I have way too many unread books in paper copy. I want to read them.
What I'm expecting to achieve is:
Better sleep
Finish two books
Create a new habit
Improve my concentration
Have less anxiety
The challenge starts tonight, and for 31 nights, I'll try to do this. I'll use a tracker to check not only that I'm doing it every night but also to track all the effects and results.
I'll track if I've read at all that day, how many pages I've read, and if I've used my phone after 7 PM. Actually, no phone after 7 PM is more like a mini-quest within the quest.
Our next appointment with this sweet column, featuring the results of the quest, will be on Tuesday, November 5th—five Tuesdays from now.
Wish me luck!
Byeee
